Amanda M. Maxwell

7212-7214 Chestnut Ave., Cheltenham Township, PA

1889 | Residence | Not Built

“Miss M. Parker, 14 South Broad Street, Philadelphia, has completed the drawings for a $4,000 frame and stone house for Mrs. Maxwell, at Oak Lane, N.P.R.R. The building will be two stories high, with a basement. The method of heating has not yet been determined. No contracts have been awarded as the work will not commence until the fall.” (May 22, 1889)

This commission may have been for Minerva’s mother, Amanda; after Minerva’s father (John Parker) died, her mother remarried Dr. Samuel Maxwell. Her full name based on this second marriage was Amanda Melvina Doane Parker Maxwell.

Assuming that theory is correct, it is unclear if this commission is related to the house Minerva announced she was designing for herself in 1890; both houses were supposed to be located in Oak Lane, but neither have been located to date.
