Max Suppes was a superintendent at the Johnson Company, a rolling mill in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, before becoming the manager of the Lorain Steel Company in Lorain, Ohio. It is unclear what circumstances and connections led them to commission a house from Minerva in 1888.
